Integrating USB connectivity into a design is a relatively simple task. One can use standard USB controllers offered for example by FTDI. A disadvantage of using a standard solution is that these controllers offer limited flexibility. Blue Melon developed a software USB implementation with which it is possible to for example support mass storage devices and human interface devices. The USB code itself is very compact and thus can be used on low cost processors.
