Blue Melon developed a large LED screen. The screen features 2500 full color Osram SMD LEDs which are updated 25 times per second. Besides an ethernet controller the screen also incorporates a number of distance sensors. Artists can display their interactive Flash animations on the screen by using the distance sensor information supplied through a Flash action script interface. To achieve a frame rate of 25 frames per second and enough color resolution Blue Melon used a Spartan FPGA. The FPGA was programmed using VHDL to decode video from a standard DVI video input.
