Gassco Belgium AS has been assigned with the daily management and transport of gas from Norway to Belgium and France. The central control room is situated in Zeebrugge (Belgium). A project has been underway to upgrade the control room with the modernized equipment. Blue Melon has developed several custom tailored systems to support the operation.

The gas terminal is managed using a PLC system. The control room is fitted with a number of PC terminals which display the status of the PLC system. Modifications to existing hardware and software are forbidden as this would void safety certificates.

To make upgrades of the visualisation system possible a hardware design was needed to allow enhanced communication between PLC and PC´s. Blue Melon developed a system which enabled the PC to communicate with the PLC system without modification of the existing hardware.
