From BlueMelon
The Wiimote is an ideal controller for interactive devices. Besides a number of buttons the Wiimote incorporates three accelerometers and two IR sensors. These sensors allow movement tracking of the Wiimote. You can use the sensor data streaming from the Wiimote to control equipment in totally new ways.
At the moment you can find a number of different solutions to connect the Wiimote with your PC. During the development of some of our own Wiimote enabled systems we found out that it is was quite difficult to find the correct hardware and software combination. A first problem is to find a compatible BlueTooth dongle and software stack. Secondly when the Wiimote has been connected to the computer a software package has to be found to access the Wiimote's sensors. Lastly the Wiimote connection has to be established automatically. During an exposition or when the Wiimote is used purely as a remote control it is unacceptable when the user has to manually (using keyboard and mouse!) setup the connection.
We have written a number of software utilities which allow you to interface the Wiimote easily with your PC and several popular software packages. Furthermore the product includes al needed hardware to setup a stable connection on a Windows XP PC. You receive:
- A Nintendo Wiimote controller.
- A compatible BlueTooth dongle.
- Compatible BlueTooth software.
- A Wiimote monitor application which establishes a Wiimote connection automatically and which reconnects in the event of a connection loss.
- Wiimote OSC client. The utility uses the Open Sound Control (UDP socket) protocol to send the Wiimote's sensor data to a OSC compatible application (eg. Max/MSP, Java, C, C++)
